Offline and with your screen locked

Viram needs no connection: the techniques, the voice, and the tones are all on your phone. With voice or tones, guidance keeps going when you lock the screen, so you can put the phone down and close your eyes.

When you lock your phone

What happens depends on the guidance you choose in Cues & sound:

GuidanceWhat it does
VoiceVoice says each step, like “Inhale left.” It keeps guiding when you lock your phone.
TonesA different sound marks each step. The tones keep guiding when you lock your phone.
Silent, Android with hapticsNo sound. The screen stays on. If you lock your phone, haptics keep guiding.
Silent, iPhone with Soft tonesNo sound while you watch. The screen stays on. If you lock your phone, soft tones keep guiding.
Silent, iPhone with Pause, or Android without hapticsNo sound. The screen stays on, and locking your phone pauses the practice.

An iPhone can’t play haptics while it’s locked, which is why Silent mode offers soft tones there. While a practice plays, it shows on the lock screen like other audio, where you can pause and resume it.

What pauses a practice

Calls, other apps that take over audio, and disconnected headphones pause a practice. Return to Viram and tap Resume; the step starts again after a short settle.

Music and other audio

In Cues & sound, choose what happens to other audio during a practice: Play along or Pause it, plus Automatic on iPhone and Lower it under each cue on Android. Viram’s own background music is off unless you turn it on.

Offline, and private

Everything Viram needs to guide a practice is on your phone, including every voice clip, so it works in airplane mode. Your practice history stays on your phone too: Viram has no account or server. Read the privacy policy.
