About
A little space to breathe, made with care.
Viram is a free, independent app for learning and practising pranayama, the breathing practices of the yoga tradition, alongside a few modern breathing patterns. It has no ads, no subscriptions, and no account, and it never will.
How we write the guides
- From the sources, in our own words. Every guide is drafted from the sources listed under it: classical texts in public-domain translations, teaching books, and published studies. Each study is checked against its PubMed record.
- Gentle forms only. Viram teaches techniques without forceful breath holds, and every guide carries its own care notes alongside the general ones.
- Tradition and research kept apart. What a tradition teaches is described as such. Research summaries say what a study measured, including mixed and null results, and don’t claim more than it showed.
- Checked before release. Every guide’s rhythm, wording, and sources pass automatic content checks before a release, and these pages are built from the same content as the app.
Who has reviewed them
The guides were last revised on , after an evidence review of every technique’s instructions, care notes, and claims against its sources. No guide has yet been reviewed by a named pranayama teacher or clinician. When one is, the guide will say who reviewed it, their background, and when.
The voice
Voice guidance is generated by AI from Viram’s own scripts before release and bundled in the app, so it works offline. Before release, listeners check the voice and how it says each Sanskrit name. If a word sounds wrong to you, tell us.
